Project Title: The contribution of community and residential gardens to biodiversity in an urban ecosystem

I am a new graduate student in the Wood lab studying avian and urban ecology. I plan on researching the contribution of community and residential gardens to biodiversity throughout Los Angeles. The overall purpose of my work is to understand the influence of variable land-use practices within urban environments on wildlife.

Some species of birds, like this Scrub Tanager (Tangara vitriolina) in Quito, Ecuador, are common in urban gardens. Christian’s project will examine the value of community and residential gardens for wildlife in Los Angeles.
